Who we are...

Updated: Feb 13

Child abuse is a serious issue that affects millions of children every year. It can have a devastating impact on their physical, emotional, and mental health. We live in a time where we believe many types of abuse are problems of the past, but we cannot rely on this to ensure the safety of our own and all the children we come into contact with.

Safeguarding First is a charity that is dedicated to protecting children from harm.

We provide training and resources to help people who work with children to recognise the signs of abuse and make the right decisions to keep children safe. Safeguarding is key to ensuring all children have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and give their all to the world around them. By allowing children to be abused we not only risk their future but also risk taking away the positive changes that person could make in our world.

We were founded by Lucy McCollum, a survivor of child sexual abuse who experienced years of fighting for recognition from the organisation in which her abuse occured. Lucy understands the pain and trauma that child abuse can cause, and she is passionate about making sure that other children don't have to suffer the same way she did.

Safeguarding First will offer a variety of training programs for people who work with children, including:

* Child abuse prevention training

* Supporting children with SEN

* Trauma informed practice

We are also keen to support organisations that would like to commission specialist training and will work to ensure this is done in a cost conscious way. We are dedicated to offering training that is financially accessible for organisations as the children using those organisations deserve to be led and cared for by the best trained leaders/carers/adults possible.

We believe that everyone who works with children has a responsibility to protect them from harm. We are committed to providing the training and resources that people need to make the right decisions to keep children safe, but to do this we are reliant on the kindness of others and only able to do this through donations and fundraisers.
